MINDFULNESS-BASED CONSULTATION

I help clinicians enhance therapeutic presence and clinical effectiveness by bringing mindful awareness to the therapeutic relationship, focusing on what is unfolding in your inner landscape as you work with your clients.

This approach to consultation is helpful for mental health professionals who:

  • want to bring kind attention to your inner experiences so you can accurately attune to your client’s experiences in the moment
  • are highly sensitive beings who struggle to skillfully navigate challenging situations and clients with equanimity
  • are challenged by and are actively trying to unravel internalized oppression as it shows up in the therapeutic relationship
  • have shame around your own difficult emotions that arise in the countertransference or reactions to clients or clients’ material
  • are preoccupied with judgment toward yourself about habitual thought patterns and behaviors that get in the way of embodying therapeutic presence or implementing skillful therapeutic actions
  • have difficulty tuning into your body’s communication about yourself, your clients, and the therapeutic process
  • struggle to become more aware of your energy, changes in energy, your clients’ energy, and the energy that is created in the therapeutic relationship
  • are experiencing burnout and are unsure about how to relate to the exhaustion, negativity, and/or tendency to go on autopilot or dissociate

As a consultant, I provide a compassionate space for you to explore your experiences from the inside out. Together, we open to an intimate inner awareness for whatever unfolds in the moment. By applying mindfulness to your practice, you have the opportunity to develop a deeper connection with yourself, respond more effectively to complex emotional and relational dynamics, navigate challenging therapeutic situations with equanimity, and minimize judgment and burnout.

Through reflective dialogue, contemplative practice, and somatic inquiry, we discover together how to provide more attuned and compassionate client care, refine therapeutic effectiveness as you work, all while holding space for and nurturing your own well-being.

Consultations are held via Zoom at $180/session. Sessions are 50 minutes.

Some lower fee appointments are available for emerging professionals in need, starting at $120/session.

Experience

While it is not my only expertise, I have extensive experience in helping women recognize & amplify inner resources to recover from trauma, anxiety, and distress while attending to the important relationships in their lives. Using a psychospiritual lens, I collaborate with clients to navigate complex PTSD, disorganized attachment, complex emotional and relational dynamics, and internalized oppression.

I also have significant experience helping women negotiate two or more cultures, explore sexuality, and/or navigate gender identity.

My approach with you is similar to the one I use with clients. I use my vast toolbox in a way that is most beneficial to your unique process, yet I tend to lean most on these relational approaches: psychodynamic, Buddhist Psychology, mindfulness-based therapy, ecopsychology, and neurobiologically-informed trauma treatment with parts work at the center of the process.

While it is not “an approach” per se, I inherently operate personally and professionally with a social justice lens which means that therapy cannot be separated from familial, societal, and religious conditioning we experience as unique beings on this planet. As a mixed-heritage lesbian from a working-class family, I appreciate the ways internalized oppression can show up in our efforts to attain mental and emotional health.

Education and Training

I have been seeing clients since 2007 and earned my licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in 2013. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Women’s Studies with a concentration in Art and Psychology from Knox College, a Master’s Degree in Integral Counseling Psychology from California Institute of Integral Studies, and a Certification in Depth Hypnosis (Spiritual Counseling emphasis) from The Foundation of the Sacred Stream.

I am the CEO and co-founder of Inner Science Institute (InSci), providing courses and events for lifelong learners as well as mental health professionals interested in fulfilling continuing education units. Serving as both the co-founder and one of the lead instructors for InSci, I create curriculum and write blogs to provide integrative professional development opportunities that prioritize self-awareness, therapeutic presence, and social justice.

I am currently enrolled in Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield‘s Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program, a two-year training in awareness and compassion-based practices.

In addition, I have training and certificates in shamanism, energy healing, astrology, grief and bereavement, trauma recovery, women’s spirituality, self-compassion, radical acceptance, mindfulness, meditation, ecopsychology, and permaculture.

Since 2000, I have been exploring and integrating timeless wisdom from the world’s spiritual and religious traditions. Although raised Catholic, I have explored and enjoyed many spiritual paths, and have appreciation for all paths and no path. I have been a devotee of Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma) since 2003 and Mother Meera since 2009 and am engaged in the teachings and practices of Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism) and Catholicism while maintaining a deep connection with the earth. My more recent boon of discovering Sri Mooji in 2014 and Thich Nhat Hanh in 2020 continues to expand into profound experiences of the Loving Presence within.
